There are lots of ways to earn experience in Resurgence. Many of you have already begun to make habits of doing a few of these, but what if you're trying to earn enough for a big expenditure? Maybe you want to buy up your Willpower, acquire a combo discipline or learn a rare and costly form of Thaumaturgy. How do you get your hands on the XP you need to sink into those things? Here is the list!
1. Log on and RP
Time that you spend bullshitting around in OOC doesn't count. Get in character. Draw people in. Scheme, plot, make deals, or if there's an ST online, ask for a hunting or mini combat scene if you wish. There are tendrils of plot just waiting to wrap around your neck! Go find some! Each Plot night (2x a week, on occasion more) XP is acquired and awarded within 48 hours. These can range anywhere from 1 to 5 depending on the complexity of the scene.
2. RP Better
From time to time, in running plot, we see exceptional role play or truly clever solutions to complex problems. If you're engaged and enjoying the RP, chances are, you'll catch our eye from time to time. Awards for exceptional role play range from 1 to 3 XP.
3. Downtimes
These aren't just for XP. Downtimes are essential if you intend to do anything behind the scenes. Are you contacting one of your mortal allies to help raid a Sabbat Haven? Are you using your influences to give your political rival some trouble on the street? That's what Downtime Actions are for. Also, you can earn XP for them. Usually 1 or 2, possibly more if you give us something we can use in plot.
4. Journal Entries
When intense things happen to your character, write it down! The Journal section of your Puppet Prince sheet isn't just for your background and downtimes. Every time you write a journal entry seething over the nerve of that upstart Toreador who made you look bad in court or bemoaning the shortsightedness of your Primogen or outlining your fiendish plot to become the KiRecruitingng of all Londinium and wear a shiny hat, we see it and we reward you for it. These make your story richer and they make your XP wallet fatter in the process. You can earn anywhere from 1 to 5 points for journal entries depending on how well written and possibly how useful they are to the ST staff.
5. Recruiting
Starting today, December 7, 2015 and ending February 29, 2016, I will begin awarding XP for recruitment. If you bring me a player who creates a character and engages in game (minimum 2 weeks of consistent log in and RP post approval) I will award 10 xp. A caveat: there are certain people in the gaming world on IRC who I am reluctant to admit to this game. Everyone has those people, I think. If you know me, you know who those people are in my book. If you are unsure, ask. In general, if I've had problems with them in the past, I'm usually willing to let bygones be bygones as long as they don't attempt to roll the game and ruin it for everyone else.
6. Volunteer Opportunities/Mentoring
From time to time, STs need support. Just as an example, I needed to set up a Forum (the one you're reading right now). I was short on time and patience and there was crucial information I had to get out. So I asked someone to do it for me. If there is anything that I need to continue to do my duty to this game at peak efficiency, I will usually ask. Those things may be one-time help, a long-term maintenance thing, or even a Staff or Para-Staff position. One-time help can offer as much as 3 xp, ongoing help, 3 xp per month, and Staff positions that require a time commitment offer 8 xp per month (For everyone but the Head ST, that's me).
One of those one-time help items that offers more is mentoring a player who is new to the system or genre. Teaching, assisting, guiding, helping with statting a character, in general, getting a newbie his or her sea legs, is a commitment that is short term, with big rewards. Depending on how long and how much effort is required, I am willing to award greater than 3 xp for this task to a maximum of 8 xp.
7. Forum Activity
For those who are most active on the forums, I occasionally see who's made recent posts and do a 1 xp award.
8. "Read Me" Topic Easter Eggs
This one is just sheer fun for free XP. I try to update my OOC topic weekly or as often as updates are needed. When you log on, make sure you take a glance at the topic to see if anything has changed (this can happen in IC rooms, too). If you see an Easter Egg, you'll know it. Immediately PM an ST to receive your reward.
9. Games and Interviews
When there are a lot of people logged on and we're killing time before plot hits, We might ask a question in OOC, something about your character, for instance, "What is your character's most embarrassing moment?" Think about it and PM the ST with your answer for a small XP award.
